Introducing our Live Desert Ironclad Beetle - Blue Death Feigning Beetle, the perfect pet for insect enthusiasts of all ages! These fascinating creatures are not only educational but also incredibly fun to care for. Our beetles require minimal maintenance, making them an excellent choice for beginners. They thrive in a dry desert-like environment and only need dry sand as substrate and something to hide in.

You don't have to worry about providing additional heat or humidity for these hardy beetles. They are also unable to climb smooth surfaces, so you can easily contain them in their habitat without any escape worries. Feeding these Blue Death Feigning Beetles is a breeze. You can offer them a variety of foods such as apples, carrots, dog and cat foods, grains, and even recently deceased insects like crickets or mealworms.

For an extra treat, they also enjoy good quality raw hamburger meat in small amounts. Just be sure to keep the humidity low as they are desert beetles. In fact, the color of the beetles is influenced by the humidity level, with lower humidity resulting in more vibrant blue colors. With their captivating blue hue, these beetles make a stunning display in any insect collection.

They are known for their unique ability to play dead when threatened, adding an element of intrigue to their behavior. The Live Desert Ironclad Beetle, also known as Asbolus verrucosus, is native to the deserts of the Southwestern United States, particularly the Sonoran desert. Measuring around 18 to 21 mm (.71 to .83 inches) in length, these beetles are the perfect size for observation. The blue coloration is a result of a protective wax secreted throughout their bodies, which helps them retain moisture in their arid habitat.

Despite being mainly wild-caught, these beetles adapt well to captivity and are commonly found in zoos and insectariums. Please note that shipping live animals requires special care.
